SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West today reminded California businesses and residents of the August 17, 2020 deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for property damage caused by the civil unrest in Los Angeles County that began May 26, 2020.

According to Garfield, businesses of all sizes, most private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters may apply for SBA federal disaster loans to repair or replace disaster-damaged property. SBA can also lend additional funds to help with the cost of improvements to protect, prevent or minimize the same type of disaster damage from occurring in the future.

These low-interest federal disaster loans are available in Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

Businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.

In addition, SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Economic injury assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any property damage. The deadline to apply for an SBA economic injury disaster loan is March 17, 2021.

Disaster loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.

Interest rates can be as low as 3 percent for businesses, 2.75 percent for private nonprofit organizations and 1.25 percent for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition.

Applicants may apply online, receive additional disaster assistance information and download applications at https://disasterloanassistance.sba.gov/. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance. Individuals who are deaf or hard‑of‑hearing may call (800) 877-8339. Completed applications should be mailed to U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX 76155.

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is offering cash grants of up to $250 for disabled veterans affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Service-connected disabled veterans who have lost employment as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible. This includes veterans who are self-employed as contractors or small business owners.

You can apply for the grant online by providing proof of your status as a service-connected disabled veteran and proof of unemployment or financial need as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

You should submit a copy of your VA identification card showing your service connection or any other official VA document showing your service connected disability status. If you don’t have a VA identification card, you can download a copy of your disability documentation from the VA’s eBenefits website.

To verify your hardship, you should submit some proof of unemployment or lost income. This could be a letter from your employer indicating your termination or furlough status or proof that you have applied for, or are receiving, unemployment benefits. If you are self-employed you need to submit some type of proof of lost income.

You do not need to be a DAV member to receive this grant.

DAV says that the cash grants will be distributed in check form and should arrive within two weeks the date your application is approved.

For more information, visit the DAV website.

    Greetings Professionals,

As if things aren't bad enough, I’ve been recently informed by Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and General Services Administration (GSA) that a new FAKE website is circulating that looks just like the www.sam.gov and http://login.gov/ webpage but IT IS NOT! The FAKE webpage's address is https://sam-gov.org

PLEASE DO NOT ENTER YOUR INFORMATION INTO THIS SITE, IT IS A FAKE PORTAL!

The GSA is investigating the site and the situation as I write this.

As a reminder, if an email or website DOES NOT end in .gov or .mil or .edu; the site is NOT regulated; be sure to double check before you click!

If you are ever unsure, because these sites/emails can look very REAL, feel free to forward the email to a legitimate resource for further confirmation.

    Take care and be safe...
